Chapter 17
Lila
I suck back the caramel Frappucino and sigh happily. My shift at the diner had ended at three, and after running a few errands for Dad and I, I now had the whole evening stretching out ahead of me. Nothing to do but kick my feet up and binge watch something on television.
Of course, I’d rather be with Bennett or Sam. Or Bennett and Sam. I haven’t seen either of them since that night at Bennett’s. What a night that had been. I shiver just thinking about it. Being between those two alphas, letting them do what they wanted to me, giving them my control … it was strangely empowering. It defies logic, but there you go.
We hadn’t really talked about it since it happened, though, so I’m still not sure how they’re feeling about the whole thing. Surely, when Ava had told them they needed to share me for the month, that wasn’t exactly what she had in mind.
After we’d all managed to catch our breath, Sam had silently dressed and gone downstairs. I kept waiting for Bennett to say something, to reach out to Sam, but he just let him walk out. I had grabbed the sheet and followed Sam down to the front door. I still remember the way he’d run his hands through his hair before leaning over to kiss me. The look in his eyes … he was clearly troubled, in some way, over what had just happened between the three of us.
“Call me,” I’d said, squeezing my arms around him. He’d promised to do that, but since then we’d only exchanged a few text messages. Over text, he was as flirty and sweet as usual, but he hadn’t mentioned getting together again. That filled me with guilt — after all, he had paid more than enough for my time this month.
I’d had Bennett drive me home a little while later. Even though part of me wanted to collapse into his bed and sleep for a thousand years, it felt strange to spend the night cuddled up next to Bennett after watching Sam leave. Bennett had been understanding about it, but since then I hadn’t heard much from him either, other than a few texts.
That’s why I’m looking forward to not thinking about either of them tonight. I’ve had my caffeine fix, and now I intend to spend the rest of the night with my other favorite threesome: popcorn, wine and Netflix. Dad and I can just spend the evening watching a silly comedy, and it’ll be just like old times.
Dad’s nestled into his arm chair and I’ve just clicked on the television and am scrolling through the comedy options when my phone trills. My heart leaps — I immediately hope that it’ll be Bennett or Sam.
I grab the phone eagerly, but my excitement dulls when I look down at the display. Shit.
“Hi Caroline,” I say, trying to sound cheerful. I give Dad the one-minute sign and take the phone into my room, closing the door quietly behind me.
